Here in Canada we have similar stories of loss of culture, and re-awakenings of culture among our aboriginal population. Our schools are working hard to adapt to help the kids graduate, but last year, they eliminated the 3 permanent full-time Native Education Teachers in our high schools and now will rely on "First Nations workers" who are not trained the same way. We are stunned, and waiting for the inevitable backlash.

I'm here from the potluck, my offering is at http://shawnbird.com/2011/08/09/okanagan-mountain-fire-evacuation-august-2003/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-215361193358741510.post-65579284201862839282011-08-08T17:33:30.858-07:002011-08-08T17:33:30.858-07:00excellent.excellent.Jesse.s.mitchellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07205953592757534769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-215361193358741510.post-86381706705958715632011-08-08T08:01:20.763-07:002011-08-08T08:01:20.763-07:00Growing up in Arizona, I saw some of this first ha...Growing up in Arizona, I saw some of this first hand. It was a two edged sword, because many of the kids were greatful for the chance to get an education. I managed aa restaurant across the street from the Phoenix Indian High School when I was in my early twenties. My assistant manaager was a graduate of the school. He was greatful for the education, yet held tightly to his heritage.Marbles in My Pockethttp://charleslmashburn.wordpress.com/2011/08/08/one-hell-of-a-ride-2/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-215361193358741510.post-69601772900729238452011-08-07T21:37:51.794-07:002011-08-07T21:37:51.794-07:00"This", is one of the main reasons it is..."This", is one of the main reasons it is such a joy to be a part of Jingles community. Canada, New Zealand, and Australia also had similar practices.

I think it is wonderful that we recognized the errors of the past and had the moral courage to change.JBinford-Bellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14293248281473648182noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-215361193358741510.post-58053752536124371252011-08-07T18:28:28.332-07:002011-08-07T18:28:28.332-07:00This is a scar on our history. This is a scar on our history.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
