Sweet Summer by John William Waterhouse Mag 225 |
The summer of innocence
just newly spoiled
celebrating your sexuality
before it must to be hidden inside
the diary.
The summer of sweet love
before you knew its curse
and he left you for another
less innocent
more ripe.
The summer of awakening
of knowing why it is forbidden fruit
which all to quickly spoils
like an improperly corked vintage
gone sour.

forbidden fruit all too quickly spoiled...ha...yes, especially when that is the foundation of the relationship....
ReplyDeletethree summers to learn a lesson already taught in the book!! we all learn from our own mistakes only!!
ReplyDeleteThat first love most often doesn't come out too well. It does in the story that my friend and I wrote using this prompt, but in reality, it more often goes sour as you describe in this fine poem.

Sadly, some summers are over before love's properly awoken! Really nice piece!
ReplyDeleteNeat précis of the way it is for most of us.
ReplyDeleteGreat words these:
ReplyDeleteforbidden fruit
which all to quickly spoils
like an improperly corked vintage
gone sour.
May the summer be a long one ~ Eddie
