| A Dinner Table at Night, John Singer Sargent |
The Conversation
Stopped
her attention exhausted
smile worn out
the dinner too long.
Rescue
impossible
the room too warm
a distant memory invaded.
Starring
across the room
she saw his ghost
in conversation with another.
Hopelessly
she wished for escape
from yet another conversation
with yet another man.
