Divided Spirit
Are angels white
and devils black?
Or is it just a random choice
by an anonymous dark ages painter
who maybe mixed the wrong colors?
Do doves herald the departure of a good soul
and ravens portend the coming of dark days?
If white is the absence of pigment
and black the mix of all
are angels soulless?
If sunlight is a mix of all colors
and the black of night the absence of any light
Is midnight the most innocent of all times?
Can any human, saint or imp
be totally pure of spirit?
Is good or evil
just a snap decision
good for just a fleeting moment
before sunrise or sunset?
Are we all divided spirits of varying shades of grey?
