Grand Water Passage |
Slipping through Time
Slipping
Between silent walls
Slices of time across the eons
Before.
Gliding
Across a river stilled
Silenced by the narrows
Ahead.
Waiting
For the plunge
Bucking over the rough
Unseen.
Listening
To the distant roar
Water cascading
Closer.
Wishing
Away this still peace
Worry about what will
Come.
Knowing
The towering walls
Prevent an avenue of retreat
Life.
Flowing
Forever onward
Until our time
Stops.

I have been down many a river and canyons in the west where I live and there is always something eternal about them. They are teachers of lessons I have yet to fully learn.
The "illustration" Grand River Passage is one of my paintings which has been featured here on Creative Journey. And part of my project of a poem for every painting of significance.
This flowed really well and I love the picture.

A wonderful, thought-provoking poem, and a stunningly beautiful painting. Your talent is amazing. I have spent many days in the canyonlands, too. I live in Texas now, and miss them. Just took a short trip to Arizona, where we had a brief enjoyment of some of the canyons there.

This verse is especially relevant to me. Often our peaceful times are lost only because we are fretting about what may come.
Thanks. Good job.
Wonderful writing with light but lovely word play with the 4th line of your stanzas. Simple as it may be I love complicating it with my imagination. :)
