Lost
Brunch with friends
Eggs sunnyside up
Memories dark
Trying to dial in the conversation
And tune out the images.
A childhood tea set
Sent home by a father at war
Pretty miniature china plates
Her mother distraught
Shattered pieces
Of blue and white.
One small plate saved
From the slaughter
Tucked away
Where did it go?
Why did she hate it so?
Sorry, no appetite I guess.

ReplyDeleteA childhood memory put to paper - a sad memory. Because you describe the scene so vividly, you must remember why you were angry?
ReplyDeleteGood write.
Powerful piece. I had a tiny set of Blue Willow when I was a child. I often wonder what happened to it.
ReplyDeleteAh, there is so much here - love it!
ReplyDeleteFull of a back story we can only guess at...
ReplyDeleteSolid, plot-teasing work.
ReplyDeleteThis triggered a few childhood memories of my own - of stuff sent home from the war. Thanks.
